Everyone wants to get a better handle on change, am I right?
We rail against it, we wish it would hurry up and be over, or hurry up and get here. But how often do we reflect on the change we are facing, go inside and ask our Change Genie, what’s this about?
All right I confess, I made up a card game to help with that reflection process. It’s kind of a change tarot deck; the cards are visual, but they have words attached to the pictures. Six cards represent the change process.
To play, you think about the change you are making (making it’s a project, or a new job, new relationshop. or a home remodel – anything at all!), then choose 1 card at random for each stage of the change. Then, you choose three more ‘Weather’ cards – these represent the unexpected forces that muck with your plans – and pair them with three more cards.
You place these cards face down, then slowly turn them over and reflect on what they mean to you. This is all about your own interpretation, so there’s no set answer. The person whose “layout” it is reflects on what each card might mean for him or her. Slowly, you can piece together your change strategy, and reflect upon it by imagining your process, and how you might react to obstacles along the way. If this sounds at all confusing – don’t worry – the cards come with super detailed instructions
It’s a fantastic way to assess a leader’s receptivity to the change they are in, or your own trepidation about a change you might be facing. It’s a visual litmus test. I had about 500 decks made up and if you order them in the next week, I’ll give all you early adopters $5 off of the price.
I’d love to see pictures of your card layouts and hear your stories – tell us what you learned and we’ll put you on our early adopter list to send you new products and let you beta test some other things we have up our sleeves.
Change isn’t always easy, but Change Genie will make it your change SUPER FUN.
Thanks for being the amazing Creative Genius that you are!
